What VehiScope can see
and what it cannot

Honest OBD-II scope — so you know when the check-engine light is covered, and when you still need a workshop tool.

We monitor (standard OBD-II)

  • Live sensors — RPM, speed, throttle, MAF, MAP, coolant, intake, load, fuel trims, O2, oil/ambient temp, baro, module voltage, fuel level where supported
  • Check-engine / MIL — lamp bit + DTC count from PID 01
  • Fault codes — Mode 03 stored, 07 pending, 0A permanent (P/C/B/U including MAF codes like P0100–P0104 when the ECU reports them)
  • Code history — first/last seen and how often a code returned on that VIN
  • Identity — VIN (Mode 09) + calibration ID when the car answers
  • GPS trips — phone location with road-snapped routes on the portal
  • Remote clear — Mode 04 clear DTCs / MIL when ignition is on and the phone is online

We do not cover (needs OEM / other tools)

  • ABS, airbag, TPMS, body, cluster warning lights — different modules, not Mode 03 emissions OBD
  • Freeze-frame (Mode 02) and Mode 06 monitor tests — captured on VehiScope modules during DTC scans when the ECU supports them
  • EV / hybrid HV battery packs — full pack SOC/SOH, cell temps, motors, thermal (most BYD / many Chinese EVs need proprietary access or the maker’s app). A few EVs expose limited standard PIDs such as hybrid pack % (0x5B) if the car lists them
  • Manufacturer enhanced diagnostics — dealer-level UDS / bi-directional tests
  • Every PID on every car — we only poll what each ECU lists as supported after discovery

How a fault read works

  1. Phone pairs to the VehiScope Bluetooth OBD module and auto-detects the car’s OBD protocol.
  2. VehiScope discovers supported Mode 01 sensors, then streams the ones that matter for live gauges.
  3. It reads the MIL lamp bit, then asks for stored / pending / permanent codes with multi-ECU headers on.
  4. Codes and sensors upload to your account so the portal and AI can review the same moment on the map.
  5. Triggered codes stay in history even after you clear the lamp — so repeats are visible.

If your old plug-in scanner showed a MAF code (P010x) and VehiScope did not, typical causes are: scan ran while the ECU was asleep, only a chassis light was on (not powertrain), or the code was cleared before our scan finished. With ignition on and Live Data running, a stored MAF code is in scope.

Rule of thumb: an EV having an OBD-II port means a connector is present — not that the full EV dashboard is published on SAE J1979.
